"Thankful or Tanked-full: Making Life Choices with Zest!"

Writer: Rip JenkinsRip Jenkins

 I choose Thankfulness!

Living a life of thankfulness can feel like trying to juggle too many oranges - overwhelming, right? But hey, it's all part of the journey to discovering who we really are and where we want to go. And every journey begins with a CHOICE!

It's like deciding whether to go to the grocery store, pick the perfect vacation spot, or indulge in a nice meal for a special occasion - our choices determine the outcome. Life choices are the same. The cool thing is that choices are yours to embrace or reject. No one can force a choice upon you.

Sure, some of you might argue, "But I didn't choose my family." Of course not! Trust me, you didn't have anything to do with the family you were born into. And for those who say, “I did not choose the abuse that was hurled at me," or "There was no other choice but to endure the hardships my family faced," well, you were not the cause, but your reaction is entirely up to you!

I remember reading a book several years ago that changed me way of thinking, it was a book the by James Moore - You Can Get Bitter or Better? Moore highlights that when tough times come knocking, you have a simple choice: get bitter and let the tough times devour you, or get better and find new ways to face the problems.

The failure to choose is also a choice. You can’t hide your head in the sand and expect things to change. Situations can change on their own - but not always for the good. Positive change only happens when we get intentional about our choices and find ways to move forward when faced with detours, distractors, or even significant others who try to keep us trapped in a life of poor choices. So what's it gonna be - bitter or better?

The failure to choose is also a choice. You can’t hide your head in the sand and expect things to change.

Let's face it, we all want to live a life of gratitude and thankfulness. But sometimes, we make choices that leave us feeling anything but thankful. In fact, most times it feels like our tank is full of the wrong stuff. Whether it's staying in a job that sucks the life out of you, or surrounding yourself with negative people, these choices can drain us of our gratitude and leave us feeling tanked-full instead.

So, how can we make life choices that lead to thankfulness? It's simple really. Start by taking a good hard look at the decisions you're making. Are they aligning with your values and bringing you joy? If not, it's time to make a change.

Don't be afraid to take risks and step outside of your comfort zone. Sometimes, the choices that lead to the most thankfulness are the ones that scare you the most. And remember, it's okay to say no to things that don't serve you.

And hey, let's not forget to add a little humor to the mix. Life is too short to take everything so seriously. So, when making your life choices, don't forget to sprinkle a little zest into the mix. Laugh at yourself, embrace your quirks, and surround yourself with people who bring joy and laughter into your life.

So, there you have it. It's time to start making life choices that lead to thankfulness, without all the un-thankfulness. Remember, it's okay to make mistakes along the way. Just embrace them, learn from them, and keep moving forward with gratitude in your heart. Here's to a life filled with zest and thankfulness!

The choice is yours!
